Changes to appointments Posted on 7 Jun 2019

The new GP contract came into force with effect from 01.04.2019. One of many contract changes is that each practice is expected to offer 25% of their appointments on line each week by the 01.07.2019.

Therefore County Surgery is making the following changes:
Please note, some appointments may be upstairs, if you may struggle or be unable to use our steep stairs, please contact reception before booking your appointment.

Doctor’s

a.     All pre bookable appointments for GP’s will be going online as of 01 July 2019.
b.     Extended Access Tuesday Morning.  We will have online appointments available for this when we are offering our extended hours.  This means you can book as early as 7.30 for an appointment.
c.    GP Monday Afternoon will all be available for online appointments. Please note that some appointments are set aside for pre booked appointments and some are telephone appointments.  The rules for telephone appointments are that you must call the surgery at the time of your booked appointment.

Diabetes

a.    Our Specialised nurse in diabetes Linda will have 5 annual review appointments for diabetes available online.  Please use these only if you have had your bloods done and you have had a letter asking for you to book an appointment for your annual review.  We send letters by your birthday month.  The letters are sent to those with either a birth month the month before or two months after (i.e. if the date is May we would send letters to everyone who has a birthday April, May, June or July) even if you had a test done recently.  Linda cannot see Asthma patients nor do bloods.  Do not misuse her appointments.
b.    Linda will also have online appointments available for foot checks.  This is because our HCA is leaving us soon.  This does mean you will get to see her twice, once for foot checks and once again for your reviews.  Please ensure you ask for your bloods forms at this appointment so you can do these before your annual review appointment.  Bloods can be done at NGH as long as Linda has requested them.

Questions

1.  Can I still book an appointment with reception or over the phone?
a.    Yes, staff can book for you just as they have always done.

2.    Will people booking online have a larger option of booking as promised?
a.    Yes, some appointments to see the GP are available online from 14 days before the appointment date, in the surgery they are only opened from 12pm on a Monday.  You will also be able to book an appointment any time of the day or night.

3.    Can I cancel online too?
a.    Yes, the option is available to do this and you can cancel by calling too.

4.    Will I still get a text reminder?
a.    Yes, as long as you provide your mobile number and allow texts.  Please note that if you allow your mobile number to be used by other family members you may then get messages about their appointments.  County Surgery urge you not to do this as it can cause a breach of your information.  This includes having your mobile number on your child’s records.  Please let us know if you have your mobile number on your child’s records and they are soon to be 16.

I have other questions

Please send in your questions.  A special box will be available in reception for this reason for you to add your questions in.  We promise to try our best and advertise all answers as soon as we can on our website.  This will be open until 01.12.2019.
